INTRODUCTION :

Having completed a law degree in Johannesburg, South Africa in the mid-90's, I embarked on extensive visits to India, Kashmir and Pakistan...
I enjoyed a short stint in television and film production on my return & followed that up with work in community radio presentation & production in Cape Town.
Lately, I have entered the arena of sustainability and bio-safety regulation with an increasing interest in geopolitics.
Presently, residing in Cape Town ...

"KHYBER PASS"

TAG LINE : Blind Love Can Heal Broken Divides …"

GENRE : “Khyber Pass” is a fictional dramatic feature film !

LOG LINE : Two people’s need to redeem a world and console a nation along the lines of "Charlie Wilson's War" meets "The English Patient", BUT contemporary.
Based on real life incidents.

SETTING : Afghan / Pakistan Border …

WRAP : Molly (Marisa Tomei) is an elite intelligence agent in the US. She has a legacy to fulfill … She follows in her father’s footsteps (Harvey Keitel), a marine, who has since entered politics. Her mother (Lauren Bacall), divorced, is an ex-war correspondent who’s a product of an ensconced series of embedded war journalism and rigid bureaucracy, and still shapes the news …
Molly’s just finished an operation in Afghanistan as a “peace officer” and although teetering on burnout, accepts an offer to investigate human rights abuses in a remote village on the Western Pakistan-Afghan border in the Swat Valley and Buner Districts. The intelligence agencies, however wish to salvage information on a near mythical jihadist-leader and hope she can get under the skin of the community.
Her past and maternal instincts to settle down and start a family of her own, come to a head as primal customs lead to the surfacing of a heady infusion of shame; flashbacks of guilt, joy and unabashed passion.
Confused, yet adamant, she falls for an attractive militant, Sayed (James Franco), who she knows will spin the yarn and close the divide in her fractured heart. She follows him and must win the trust of his companions...
There’s catastrophe and destruction; challenges of trust and the need to return home with the consequences !

PROJECT’S POTENTIAL : I have sought advice from Chris Roland (Hotel Rwanda, Charlie Jade, Darfur), Janet van Eeden (White Lion, A Shot At The Big Time), Malik Basso (Garnata Media), Tess Fairweather (SAWG) & Sue Isserow (SASWA) regarding the logistics of such a project.
Aforementioned have liked the pitch and are willing to support & work on it, with the intention of supplying a spec to Lori McCreary (Morgan Freeman) via local production company, “Moonlighting” (Genevieve Hofmeyr).

QUESTIONS : - Moonlighting Production Team covers an extensive presence in a broad range of settings ...
